Pad Kra Pao (Thai Pork and Basil)

FAKEAWAY SERIES

Fakeaway Series Pad Kra Pao (Thai Pork and Basil) (serves 4)

This recipe typically uses Thai Holy Basil, hence the name, however, as hard as I may try, I just cannot find it in the UK, so I’ve replaced it with Thai basil which has a delicious aniseed flavour. This truly is one of my favourite meals, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion diced
  • 1 heaped tsp. garlic paste
  • 500g pork mince
  • 5 Thai chillies sliced
  • 2 tbsp. Oyster sauce
  • 2 tbsp. Fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp. dark soy
  • 1 heaped tsp. sugar
  • Handful fresh Thai basil

Method

Pre-heat a frying pan along with a splash of oil, cook the onion and garlic for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the Pork mince and Cook over a high heat for five minutes until Golden. Once cooked stir through the oyster sauce, fish sauce, soy and sugar then cook for a further minute. Finally stir through the chilli and Thai basil until wilted. Serve with the portion of rice.
