Onion Bhajis

FAKEAWAY SERIES

Fakeaway Onion Bhajis (makes 8)

These onion bhajis are absolutely delicious. They are so easy to make. Why would you even buy them from a takeaway? My preferred way to cook these is to deep fry until crisp and golden, but you can also pop them in the air fryer with incredible results.

Ingredients

  • 4 onions peeled and very thinly sliced
  • 1 heaped tsp. sea salt
  • 100g gram flour (chickpea flour)
  • ½ tsp. garam masala
  • ½ tsp. turmeric
  • ½ tsp. chilli flakes
  • 2 tbsp. fresh coriander finely chopped
  • 30ml water

Method

  1. Pop the sliced onions into a bowl then sprinkle in the salt, mix well then leave to stand for 30 minutes, this will soften the onions. Sift in the flour then add the spices and just enough water to make a thick batter, mix together gently. Divide the mixture into 8 and shape into balls. Deep fry for 4-5 minutes in oil heated to 160c.
  2. Alternatively cook in your air fryer, set to 190c, place the bhajis onto a greased crisp plate within then air fryer drawer, spray with oil then cook the bhajis for 20 minutes turning halfway through.
